A Milestone in Taekwon-Do: 9th Dan
Grandmaster Michael Munyon reflects on receiving his 9th Dan and honors the Grandmasters who made the recognition possible.
After years of martial arts training, I have been awarded my 9th Dan in Taekwon-Do. This honor and accomplishment was made possible because of some great people that I want to thank.
Grandmaster Robert Dunn and Grandmaster Edward Minyard were at the official Taekwondo Hall of Fame in New York and had a conversation about promoting me. When I got the call and was offered this promotion, I had one request: my instructor, friend, and mentor had to be contacted, and he must give his approval.
Grandmaster Peter Sanders was called, my promotion nomination was presented, and he approved it.
I have known these three Grandmasters for years, and to have them advocate for this promotion still has not completely sunk in.
I am grateful that Grandmaster Dunn has recognized me at this level, and I hope to continue training and teaching Taekwon-Do the way I was taught by Taekwon-Do pioneers and ITF leaders.
